Cat litter is an essential part of any cat owner's life. 

Choosing the right cat litter for your cats is something that many cat owners don't think about, yet wonder why they have problems with their cats using litter trays or going elsewhere in the house.

As the owner of The Dubai Cat Sitting Company and a self-confessed litter geek, I often get asked which litter I use and which one I'd recommend. So, here are my favourites, in no particular order. You're welcome. 

CANADA LITTER 
Due to the small, sandy particles, this litter absorbs urine very quickly. Great if you're OCD and want to get in there straight away and remove the clumps. It's available in various scents which keeps your cat's toilet smelling fresh for longer. The only downside to this litter? It weighs a ton. Luckily we deliver, but unless you're a body builder, I'd recommend buying the smaller 6kg bags.

WORLD'S BEST CAT LITTER 
If like most cat owners in Dubai, your guest bathroom is now your cat's bathroom, this litter is great as it's flushable, making waste disposal super easy. It comes in an array of scents and sizes. If you're a proper crazy cat lady with 5+ cats (ahem, like me), I recommend the extra strength variety...although you'll need to flush the waste in stages to avoid blockages.

VAN CAT CLUMPING LITTER
This litter is 100% natural bentonite, 99.5% dust-free and has great absorption capacity...like most cat litters these days. But, what makes this litter superior to most is it's high odour control, and when you have a multi-cat household, it's much appreciated. It's available in various scents, my favourite is Marsilla Soap as it smells so fresh and clean all month long.

SIMPLE SOLUTIONS 30 DAY LITTER
I must admit, I'm not a fan of non-clumping litter. I just don't get it. But, if you are... for whatever reason (erm, why?), I'd recommend this one. It's light weight, very absorbent and you only have to remove the poop daily. It claims to trap odour and moisture for a whole month. This is true if you have one cat, although I wouldn't recommend this litter if you have more, unless you use odour eliminator with it.

NUTRA PET SILICA GEL 
As far as absorption goes, this litter is powerful and long lasting. It's smaller crystal size means it's easier to remove the poop, reducing litter wastage. It's eco-friendly and you only need to fully replace this litter once a month. I'd recommend the scented options (lavender ;), which helps keep it smelling fresh all month long. N.B I'm OCD so hate treading on rogue crystals and hearing them crunch under foot, so avoid if you're the same.
